"Predator is a fast-paced, creepy page-turner! Bashman had me at the opening sentence and she's still got me. I want more!"

Nancy Holder, New York Times Bestselling Author, The Rules

The hunt is on!

Sixteen-year-old Bree Sunderland must inject herself with an untested version of her father’s gene therapy to become a werewolf in order to stop a corrupt group of mercenaries from creating a team of unstoppable lycanthrope soldiers.

When Bree went with her scientist father to Ireland, she thought it would be a vacation to study bog bodies. She never expected to fall in love with a mysterious young Irishman and certainly never expected to become the kind of monster her father said only existed in nightmares. Dr. Sunderland discovers that lycanthropy was not a supernatural curse but rather a genetic mutation. When they return home, her dad continues his research, but the military wants to turn that research into a bio weapons program and rogue soldiers want to steal the research to turn themselves into unstoppable killing machines.

Bree’s boyfriend Liam surprises her with a visit to the United States, but there are darker surprises in store for both of them. As evil forces hunt those she loves, Bree must become an even more dangerous hunter to save them all.

Predator gives the werewolf legend a couple of new spins by introducing the Benandanti (an actual folkloric belief that certain families of Italy and Livonia were werewolves who fought against evil), as well as a modern scientific approach to mutation and the science of transgenics.

Review: Bound by MJ Stevens

I just read Bound by MJ Stevens and I have to say that I was fairly pleased. You are definitely able to tell that the editing should have been worked on, but a good book besides that. I read Bound on a two-hour car ride, so it's also not very long.
I liked the way that the story had a background dealing with magic but it was pushed back so as not to overwhelm the actual story. Magic was barely mentioned until the second half of the book.
It was a bit hard for me to get into the characters as their names were a bit farfetched. I mean, I'm all for unique names, but there's a point when even I would cross the line. This isn't necessarily bad, just, some of the spellings were weird and unpronounceable. I actually caught myself calling the same character multiple names throughout the book.
Bound gave me a bit of a Selection feel. The girl was taken against her will to possibly marry a prince. Girl hates guy. Ends up becoming friends. And so on and so forth.
Also, I wasn't completely sure whether or not the book was set in a Dystopian society, another world, another dimension, or what. At times it felt old-fashioned and at others it felt very Sci-Fi.
Overall, this was a decent book and I'll definitely pick up the second one if I ever don't have a book.

Review: The Faerie Guardian by Rachel Morgan

Over this past week, I read The Faerie Guardian by Rachel Morgan. As usual, I was skeptical about how faeries would be portrayed in this book. I've seen them written as everything from Tinker Bell-like creatures to menacing monsters with pointed teeth.
Rachel Morgan took an interesting route and made her's act more human, with a touch of the traditional Fae that we know.
This book is about Violet-yes, that is her real name- and the human boy that she's sent to save from an evil Fae creature. Somehow, this boy, named Nate, is able to see her. If that's not weird enough, Nate becomes curious and follows Violet into her world. There he is able to walk the faerie paths, something no human should be able to do.
Violet's in big trouble for bringing the boy into her world and is now tasked with erasing his memories, something that Violet decided against due to her growing feelings for Nate.
That's when things get complicated.
I dove into this book and read it so fast that it's not even funny. It's one of those books that you just have to read until after midnight. The characters completely captured me, not letting me leave.
Those characters- along with the twist that you never see coming- is what kept me reading.
If you're looking for a quick yet awesome read, then The Faerie Guardian is the book for you!

Samantha Verant

Samantha Vérant is a travel addict, a self-professed oenophile, and a determined, if occasionally unconventional, French chef. Over the years, she’s visited many different countries, lived in many places, and worked many jobs— always on the search for the one thing that truly excited her. Then, one day, she found everything she’s been looking for: a passion for the written word and true love. Writing not only enabled her to open her heart, it led her to southwestern France, where she’s now married to a sexy French rocket scientist she met over twenty years ago, a stepmom to two incredible kids, and the adoptive mother to one ridiculously expensive Bengal cat. When she’s not trekking from Provence to the Pyrénées, tasting wine in American-sized glasses, or embracing her inner Julia Child while deliberating what constitutes the perfect boeuf bourguignon, Samantha is making her best effort to relearn those dreaded conjugations.
